Our Germified Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is not a holiday here in Germany so there is work and other things that keep us busy during the day but we did want to celebrate it. We decided to do the traditional thanksgiving dinner...well....in a totally different way. Instead of turkey we had chicken. Instead of the green-bean casserole we had German style greenbeens. Mashpotatoes & cranberry sauce were normal. My grandma quickly made some yummy pumpkin pie & my mom made a strawberry pie...with 2 giant marshmallows on top. ☺

We were stuffed.

I volunteered for the decorating the table ☺ I went scouting for some fall plants when I walked the dog and made the dried flower bouquet/ thankfulness tree. After dinner we each wrote 3 things we were thankful for.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Thankful Thursday // Happy Thanksgiving

Day 22: I am THANKFUL for indoor plumbing....without it..brrrr..it's cold outside.

Day 23: I am THANKFUL for good music. Music that inspires you to be a better musician or to be a better Christian...like Lois and India Rasquinha or Chris Trosclair!

Day 24: I am THANKFUL for laughter. Sometimes it's laughing with friends, a funny movie...or laughing at yourself....it all feels good!

Day 25: I am THANKFUL God's protection. Only in heaven will I know how often he has kept me safe....only HIS will will happen in my life.
Day 26: I am THANKFUL for a place to live....a roof over my head, windows that keep out the cold air but let light come in....a clean (most of the time) floor. A civilized house.

Day 27: I am THANKFUL for my students. I love them and enjoy their quirks....to some extent. Teaching is a wonderful job!

Day 28: HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!! Just got done decorating the table and I smell good food....we are having a Germafied Thanksgiving dinner. ☺ Lots to be Thankful for!!

First Frost

this is the sun behind the clouds...isn't beautiful?

When I walked Paxton yesterday I didn't bring my camera....I was sad. I saw so much beauty in the frost and frozen water droplets...and couldn't take pictures? I knew that when I walked him today I would HAVE TO bring my camera. No frozen water drops today but lots of cool frost pictures. ☺

My toes were FREEZING and Paxton....He was acting like a frisky puppy. He LOVES the cold. ☺

Have you had frost yet where you are at? What's your favorite pictures?

Tutorial: Blouse to ruffle Pillow

Patrick's mom has these two beautiful rose colored chairs in her music themed living room. When I saw this blouse I knew it had to become a pillow for one of those chairs. It has the same color pinkish flowers, nice cream & grey color accents and little note bars on there.....so the blouse when home with me.

Finally I sat down to make it. I wanted it to be simple but add some charm....the ruffles. I knew the buttons in the front would become the opening on the back of the pillow case.

OK, so lets get started.

Use a pillow to see how big/small you want it.
Cut left and right the same width. The back of the PILLOW will be cut square. The front of the PILLOW we will cut as longer in order to have the ruffles in the front. The longer the material the more "ruffely".
Pin your edges together. I did not have a lot of material so I pinned each of my ruffles.
Sew one time around.

You're done!

Pretty Simple....a pillow case done in 20 minutes!

Let me know if you made one & shared it on your blog. I can add the link here!

Thankful Thursday

The next of Thankful Thursday this November....

Day 8: I am THANKFUL for my laptop computer. It's been my faithful friend for 4 years now. It was the first real computer in my home & my first computer. period. Because of it, we got internet in our home.
It's been with me all through college.....and was there faithfully during my long distant relationship. There were days it did not get turned off at all...all day - all night. It's been declared dead twice. I had to buy 6 news cords...but my laptop still stands.
I have keys that do not work anymore, usb ports that are failing me & big black spots scattered over my screen. But the thought of parting with this friend makes me very sad.

Day 9: I am THANKFUL for a comfortable, cozy & clean bed....not everyone is that privileged....and I am ready to go there...Good night..... Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Day 10: I am THANKFUL for my Bible believing church & the Bible I learn there. I can honestly say I did not learn anything new from my Bible classes at college. It was more a refreshing of old truths going deeper into different subjects.
I have been blessed to grow up in this wonderful ministry.

Day 11: I am THANKFUL for my dad. It's been wonderful these past 4 years. The fun we've had together, the times we've laughed so hard we cried. And last but not least. My dad is a veteran, too!

Day 12: I am THANKFUL for a Bible believing College that teaches Christian values in every subject and strengthens the belief in the inspired Word of God & does not destroy it.
The best thing I learned was that I am not the only young person striving to serve the Lord...my LBC friends, you all encourage me!

Day 13: I am THANKFUL for the small things. You know, the little things that make one happy that no one else may understand. Every day it's something different but everyday there is a little joy.

What is one of your small blessings? Mine was taking lots of water drop pictures that day.

Day 14: I am THANKFUL for technology & the way it lets me stay in touch with my friends and family over the pond....

Day 15: I am THANKFUL to be able to read. I wasn't a reader till age 13...when I saw what adventures one could have in the comfort of their home....you can be anyone in a book. But most importantly you can learn ANYTHING if you can read. Not everyone is blessed to be able to read.

Day 16: I am THANKFUL for all the visitors we had at your evangelistic Thanksgiving dinner today. The sermon was good and the fellowship afterward great...

Day 17: I am THANKFUL that Gd speaks to ME. Sometimes you wonder if what you got is real but I see the hand of God in my life & in the life around me so many times I KNOW its real. He speaks to me through his word & through the preaching all the time.
I know God is real because I speak with him...

Day 18: I am THANKFUL for my piano. It is soooooooooooooo wonderful to be able to practice & play at home. My keyboard before didn't have all the keys & no pedal. It is so beautiful too! I've had it for almost a year now!

Day 19: I am THANKFUL that I can sew. Between my mom teaching me & sewing lessons at school I had a good basic teaching of sewing....and then I found what wonders you can do with a sewing machine...
My new hobby refashioning clothes is so much fun and I wish I had more time to do it. Sewed a too short dress into a shirt Monday and made a frumpy jumper into a cute fitting dress Tuesday.

Day 20: Even though my body is fighting a cold I am THANKFUL for my health. Some people have to really deal with big things like cancer, palsy or missing limbs. I don't! I am blessed to have a normal functioning body and I am thankful for that.

What have you been thankful for?

Ravens // Photography

I love birds. I love spotting them in trees, watching them hop around & chirp. My favorite picture to catch are flying pictures.

Do I like Ravens?
Ravens. They're not really that pretty but the only bird that seems to understand that when my camera is pointing their direction that I am not ACTUALLY shooting them. Seriously, I can stand there and watch a dove or sparrow for the longest time....they can be super far away....but as soon as I point my camera....they're gone.

What is your favorite bird?
Cardinals are my favorite in the US and the "Blaumeise" is my favorite in Germany.
