So, what's new?

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal! In  less than a week we will see each other after 7 month of being apart. Yes, it's me, Iris that squealed, not Patrick...though he feels the same way. I know this isn't new to ya'll but... you didn't know it was less than a week, so HA! ☺ I also already picked out all my clothes and they take up less than half my suitcase! I am proud of myself...now we are just counting each day as it goes by...

(Patrick)
We told you last week that Iris will be going to my church's Music School when she is here. Well, Iris never learned about shape notes and since she is advanced in everything else I told her what each of the shape notes are and  now she can learn them.

 What next?
(Iris) Patrick got a haircut. Your probably wondering what's special about that but I finally gave him a chance to get a flat top and see if I like it or not. I am girl that likes guys with hair on their head (you know what I mean?) and so I was very reluctant....well...lets just say...I can't wait for it to grow back. ☺

I think the newest new (Is there such a thing?) is the BLOG LAYOUT. You can read why we started this blog {here} but we both had no idea how big the blog world was! I (Iris) got more and more into it and we want to expand. Our old URL address was ridiculously hard and the blog name, fitting to the theme before, does not match much more (←tongue twister).  Patrick and I will continue to write posts together over the weekend about our long distant relationship which prayerfully will end this year.

Whats else is new?
  • Germany lost the soccer game against Italy. :(
  • We have a twitter account
  • I started  Pinterest
  • We are planning a giveaway at the end of the month!!! Stay tuned
  • Its hot..I guess you knew that...

What's new with you? We love hearing from you!

Waiting for Mr. Right like a Firefly [Part 1]

Its that time of the year- Summer. Almost every night when I walk my dog one last time before going to bed I see these little lights flying around- Fireflies. Many of us have fond childhood memories of summer nights with fireflies; maybe some of you have caught fireflies and put them in a glass. But you probably wondering: "How in the world can I learn to wait for Mr. Right from a Firefly?"

Well lets see:

Fireflies can control the light they produce. They send out light in a pattern of flashes. When it gets dark, the firefly flies through the night. It flashes light like a signal. Each firefly has its own personal signal. The male firefly flashes his light for a very important purpose.  He is trying to look for a mate. A mate that flashes the same signals. {source}

The female firefly has short wings and most of the time cannot fly. She perches herself on a bush, rock or in the tall grass and waits, waits and waits. When a male passes by with a signal the female recognizes, the female flashes back the same signal. If the female smells right to him, the two get married and live happily ever after... {source}

I remember my mother telling me how the ones flying around were the males and the females were the ones in grass. I remember jokingly telling male fireflies where I saw a female. Toward the end of one summer we saw this one female firefly that had been sitting in particular spot in the grass all summer, far from all the others. We told her to move farther down, she will never find someone there but every night she glowed and glowed and glowed. She finally did meet someone because we didn't see her anymore. ☺

That summer I can learn an important message from these fireflies. As a girl I should stay at home, read my Bible, pray every day, keep my heart clean, do my responsibilities at church, do my best in school/college, be a good example at work... be that girl the Lord wants me to be. As I am doing this I am flashing my light. Each girl flashes a different pattern. Our light tells the guys around us how much love the Lord, if we are athletic or musical, shy or outgoing, a reader or crafter, and so much more.

When we stay in the "grass" God put us in and flash our lights, the Lord will bring the right firefly our way. Too many girls go roaming around, try to flash a different light than their own only to be heart broken because the relationship didn't last. Just wait, do Gods will for your life right now and flash YOUR light pattern.

Some may have to wait an "entire summer" to find the right one but what a blessing it is when you look up one day and Mr Right is flashing the same light you are flashing, knowing full well,

"This is God's perfect firefly for me!"

Come next Tuesday to read "Waiting For Mrs Right [Part 2]"

So summer is finally here and four weeks of it Iris and I will spend together!!! It will be be about 7 months since we last saw each other and we cannot wait to actually see each other live again. Sometimes it seems so unbelievable that this person we talk to every day in Skype, share our sorrows, hopes and dreams, the person we tell everything is actually a real human being. ☺ This may sound funny but it is true and you could probably only understand if you have been in a LDR.

(Iris)
With the visit coming up soon we have of course talked about things we want to do together as well as things we personally just want to get done. I've been seeing quite a few people on other blogs creating summer bucket lists. This really is not a bucket list but some things we are planning on doing. Some things might never happen...but our enthusiasm is up... So here we go:

Patrick
  • Iris coming
  • Go to the Rymond
  • Going to to Mammoth cave with Iris & friends
  • Plan my trip to Germany
  • Move out of apartment
  • Sell most of my stuff
  • Introduce Iris to my churches Music school
  • Take Iris to a waterfall
  • Play music with my brothers before I leave to Germany

Iris

A Rabbit falling from Heaven

Last week I wrote on Tuesday's thoughts about how God is our father. What special thing about God the father is that he not only takes care of our needs but so many times he also takes care of our wants.  Here is the story of how a rabbit fell out of haven.

As long as I can remember I have always like animals and I remember being five years old and every night I prayed to have a pet. At age nine the Lord opened a few door within a few months and ended up having a dog, two birds and a rabbit. Talk about blessing me! For each year I waited an animal. ☺ On the left you see a picture of me and my very first own pet. The dog and birds mainly belonged to others in the family but this brown little bunny named "Hoppeline" (Hop with a female suffix in German).

This little girl was one crazy rabbit but we learned together. I learned to take of a pet and she learned....well she was mean and lots a fun. ☺ Well after three and a half years she became sick and died in my mom's arms with me right beside her. My little bunny, who loved riding the car, attacked me each and every time my hand went into the cage, snuggled in my arm and loved rabbit drops was gone. Of course I wanted a new rabbit and that is where the rabbit that fell from heaven comes in.

I remember driving home from school with my mom one day.  As we driving in our little red car I brought of the subject at how much I missed my little rabbit and would love to have a new one. I checked how much rabbits cost in the store and maybe we could get one?!?

My mom said.....no, if the Lord wanted us to have another rabbit he would give it to us for free. I was very very upset. I was looking forward to buying a rabbit and I really wanted one soon! Well, upset and angry with my mom I said the famous words:

"Rabbits don't just fall out of the sky!"

That conversation was closed and a few months past. We went to visit old friends and neighbors for their birthday. It was an all day event and my mom and I wanted to take a walk out in the country because its just soooo beautiful out there. On the way we passed a farm and stopped to say hello to the owners because we had become acquaintances from our past walks with our dog.

We looked at the few sheep, said hello to their dog, watched the horse graze and then the farmer led us to his rabbits. I stood there looking at these sweet big rabbits with their little babies that would be made fat and eaten at the end of the year. The farmer asked if this one particular rabbit looked like mine. This is when my mom and I told him that mine died awhile back. He asked if we wanted another one and said we do want to get one eventually.

(And suddenly...falling through the sky....) The farmer leans down and opens a cage on the very bottom. He asked "I have a rabbit right here that you can have. It's actually a pet rabbit that someone brought me because they didn't want it anymore. You can have it if your interested" ☺☺☺

(....landing straight into my arms) I leaned down, reached my hands expecting to be hit by the rabbit because that is what my old rabbit always did but this one let me pick it up. I held it in my arms. It was bigger than my last one and then....it started licking me.

It looked like an Oreo cookie so I called it Oreo. Then since God gave it to me I called it Samuel (=God has heard) but a few months later we found out that it was a girl and she was Samantha since then. I introduce:

Samantha Oreo

Bunny love ♥

We match like really good friends! ☺

I know lollipops aren't good for pets. She only had a few licks. ☺

I have had two more rabbits and a dog after her and have never had a pet that loved me as much as she did. She would greet me by running to me when I came home. She would sit whereever I was. Every morning she would hop in my bed and want to snuggle for a little but. She was always licking me and trying to clean her best friend- ME.

She has taught me a few lessons in her life bit I will leave those for another time.

A silver envelope

So what do you think of this beautiful gift that I received??? Don't you think Patrick has excellent taste? ☺

I finally got to open Patrick's present after months of teasing "how much I'll like it", waiting forever for it to get here, and then having to pay to get my package from customs. I was FINALLY allowed to open this beautiful gift!

Wonder what it is..... a necklace with a envelope locket!!!

Let me put it on right away!!!

And Here are some more pictures I took. ☺♥

What I truly like about this envelope locket is that it represents our Long Distant Relationship. People write letters when they are apart which has been most of our relationship.Looking at the locket reminds me how far away my Love is yet how close we have become and how special our love is. No matter what we go through our love will be "Always & Forever".

Paying customs ~ Looking at Flights & more LDR fun

Paying Customs

So, Iris has been waiting and waiting for her birthday gift to get there in time. A few days ago Iris says to me "Honey, your gift is KINDA here" Of course I was totally confused at what that was suppose to mean. She explained that she received a letter from the post office stating that she needed to get her package from customs. She was to bring the receipt, the paper she got and money to pay taxes.

(Iris)
A friend drove me there and I really had no idea what to expect but they explained everything well. When I got there I showed them my paper and they got my package from the back room. It was slightly ripped and they made me open it infront of them. I was a little annoyed since this gift was suppose to be a surprise and now I knew how much it cost and had to open it up as well. I told them it was a birthday gift and they were really sweet and opened it in a way so that I could not see it. ☺ So I still don't know what it is and have to wait to open it.  Hmmmmmm???

Well, on top of having to open up my package for them I had to pay a certain percentage of my own gift!!! Thankfully they saw that I had not ordered this myself but my boyfriend had and so I had to pay a little less. After paying the money I got this impressive stamp on my paper.

Anyway, I can't wait to share with you what I got!!! Be sure to come back next Saturday... or earlier if I can't wait to share!☺

Looking at Flights

So Iris and I might be seeing each other earlier than we thought! We had been planning a visit for awhile but for various reasons we could not really settle on dates yet. This past week we finally settle on some dates and are trying to look for a cheap flight. Iris will try to be here for my churches music school. She has always wanted to go to something like that and since I have told her much about our music school, she probably is actually coming!!! We are so excited.... can you see??

We were looking at the different airlines now, seeing which one is the cheapest. Wonder which one it will be.

More Fun

I had this idea to sing together like we sometimes do (Patrick doesn't hear me- I have my mic on mute- It doesn't work any other way because of the 3 second lagg) and I record it.  What do you think? :D

Oh and I found these: P & I don't know how I'll decorate them yet but it definitely will be some summer fun.

Do you have any plans for the summer? We would love to know!

Tuesday's Thoughts: Father's Day- God as your Father

Are you doing anything for Father's Day? Your not? You do not have a father? I know the feeling. Maybe your father died, left you or your parents were divorced. There are many reasons why Father's Day might go by without you doing anything.

I grew up without a celebrating Father's Day. My parents were divorced and I remember those Father's Day crafts we would do in school or church. I remember raising my hand and asking who I could give it to. After going through the list of any other possible male in the family I ended up just giving it to my mom. ☺ My mom was my mom and my dad together but it's just not the same. So here I am, poor child without a dad and that's it. NOPE! The Bible promises us in Psalms 27:10   "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up."

We will look at how God is our Father:

1) He Loves Us

God's love for his children surpasses the love of all human beings put together. God's love is entirely unselfish. It is perfect love. Actually, God is love. (1 John 4: 8) God loved us so much he was willing to die for us. 1 John 4:9   "In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him."

2) He Cares for our Needs

Philippians 4:19  " But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Our heavenly Father is in heaven and he knows his children. He takes care for us all. He sees what we need and he is ready, willing and able to take care of our needs but like a father he wants to spend time with us and wants us to take our needs to him. He won't just give it to us but he wants us to ask. Talk to your heavenly father and tell him what you need: be it financial, emotional or physical...he can take care of you!

3) He Listens to Us

Our heavenly Father wants to hear from us so much so, that sometimes, he even lets us go through some rough times that we find time to talk to him again. If a child really really wants something don't they go following you around telling you just much they NEED it or how cool it is. Well, God is no different. If you want or need something bad enough you will come and ask...and then he gets to finally hear from you and is more than happy to bless you. But one thing must be pointed out. He doesn't just listen to everyone. He only listens to his children. Those that have accepted him as Savior.
John 9:31   Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

4) He Disciplines Us

This is definitely my least favorite point. None of us like to be disciplined; but a parent, that truly loves their child. will say "no" and even  let them feel consequences for their actions. God in heaven loves us so much and wants us to grow up to be mature Christians. Sadly we all slip into sin and our heavenly Father needs to punish us for our misbehavior. Sometimes it is a reproof from our Bible reading, a sharp rebuke from preaching and if we still do not listen or continue in sin he may let something more serious happen. All he wants is us to do is to straighten up and be in fellowship with him once again.
2 Timothy 3:16   All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

How do I know that God is my father?

Those that except Jesus Christ as the only way into heaven are a child of God.

As we read in the the first point, God loved us so much that he sent his only begotten Son to die for us and he rose again on the third day so that we can now talk to him in heaven. All you have to do is believe in this and receive him as your Saviour and you will be a child of God.

Romans 10:9   That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
John 1:12   But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Even if you cannot celebrate Father's Day with your earthly Father take some time for your heavenly Father and thank him for taking care of you!

You look beautiful today!

 http://www.beruly.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/2012-01-12-woman-mirror.jpg

(Iris)
I don't know about you but I think every girl wants to look beautiful especially when she is around the guy she likes. If we know we'll see him that day we changed a couple of times to find THE outfit that will be appropriate...yet make us look beautiful. We fix our hair just so, fiying it a couple times to make it sit perfect. Maybe we add a little makeup and then look at ourselves in the mirror. We look at ourselves from the left side...then the right side and if we have a flowy dress we twirl in a circle. We smile at ourselves in the mirror to practice that smile for later....what do we do it for? A guy. Yeah. Then the question is: Does he notice?

Well one Sunday morning in the beginning of Patrick and my courtship I was getting ready and even wore a dress which is Patrick's favorite but when it came to fixing my hair it just seemed like I couldn't get it to work. I tried several times but knowing I had to leave for church soon I ended up just having to put it up. I felt so ugly. For one, I used to hate wearing dresses and secondly I don't really like to wear my hair up... so it felt like a bad day. When my mom asked me what was wrong I told her that nothing seemed to be working and she just smiled and said that Patrick would think I looked beautiful anyway.

(Patrick)
That Sunday when I woke up I decided that I was going to tell Iris just how beautiful she looked. She always looked beautiful to me but I had never told her  face to face. It didn't matter to me what she was wearing I knew she was beautiful and wanted to tell her so today. While I was at church that morning I kept looking for an opportunity to tell her. I didn't want to embarrass her in front of lots of people so I kept waiting for a chance to tell her with less people around. Finally, when most of the people were gone and we were heading out the door, I turned to Iris and told her how beautiful she looked today. My heart was thumping and for some reason I was nervous. Iris blushed, said thank you and didn't talk to me for the rest of the morning.

(Iris)
I did not expect Patrick to say that and if you have read any of our previous stories you know how weird I acted and how nervous I felt around Patrick. ☺ When I heard those wonderful words from the man I was in love with I felt sooooooo happy but really didn't know how to act. The thousands of butterflies that went through my stomach almost made me feel sick. I didn't want to look at Patrick after that because I felt so embarrissed but I can tell you that the rest of the day I didn't think of anything else except the four words from my man "You look beautiful today."

Wish you all a happy Sunday and be sure to look beautiful! ☺

Tuesday's Thoughts: More Thankfulness to God

Do you remember the story of the creditor and the two debtors. Two men were indebted to a rich man. He had loaned them both some money awhile back. Lets just say that one loaned $500, whereas the other had needed a little more. His debt counted $5,000. The date the money was due, rolled around and both were not even close to having the money to pay their debt. The one still hadn't found a job and the other's business was still struggling to get off the ground.

The creditor had a choice. He could imprison them, raise the interest, continue to wait for them to pay...or forgive the debt. The creditor probably knew that these honest men were doing their best and he had enough money to spare...he would just forgive them.

When the two debtors stood in front of the creditor that day trembling at what his decision would be, the last thing they expected was to here the words: "I forgive your debt. Your record is clear. You cannot pay for your debt yourself so I'll pay it!"

I know those two men went home with a skip in their step. FORGIVEN!

Jesus ask an important question at the end of this parable: "Which of them will love him [the creditor] most?" The answer was "He to whom he forgave most".

The same is true for born again believers. We all have stood at the foot of the cross unable to pay our sin-debt. Some have sinned a little whereas others may have more baggage but both were unable to pay. Christ cried on the cross: IT IS FINISHED!" The debt was paid. FORGIVEN:

Far to often believers that grew up in a Christian homes or just were good people seem to have less love and zeal for Christ and his word than those that brought a lot of baggage to the foot of the cross. The Lord can and will use both but I am talking to those that see themselves as "good enough". We have an advantage! Why not use it. We don't have years of sin hounding us. We can be a great example to many people if we wouldn't sit in our comfort zone but show some zeal!

To often we think: "I go to church, live a clean life, read my Bible, tithe, pray, etc" but what else do we do for the Lord. Do you go out of your comfort zone? Teach a Sunday school, do the nursery, invite visitors from church, sing a special,  witness, witness, witness???

It is time for us to get out of our comfort zone and show more zeal in the work of the Lord. This is how you can say thank you to Jesus Christ who paid your debt and gave FORGIVENESS.

What else we have planned:

Today we enjoyed tacos for lunch/dinner and Oreos with milk for our desert. Played a few games on Pogo as well as on Skype. Well on Pogo Iris ended up spending all her points to go "shopping" for her pogo-person. (Iris- I love shopping & this kind is cheap). Now we'll continue our Bible study on faith and watch a movie!

Happy Saturday,
